Gazélec Ajaccio club president indicted

Lower division side, Gazélec Ajaccio find themselves in hot water after Marseille prosecutors indict four club members including club president, Johann Carta. The allegations seems to be the result of an investigation into alleged criminal association, extortion, fraud and money laundering.

The Corsican club also had three consecutive presidents, Olivier Miniconi, Christophe Ettori and Mathieu Messina summoned as the result of another investigation for suspected crimes in 2018. Per reporting from Ouest-France, they are suspected of having concealed bonuses and benefits to players for an amount of 1.1 million euros.

French football fans may recall the club reaching the semi-finals of the 2011–12 Coupe de France. The club made one appearance in Ligue 1 in 2015 for a single season before being relegated back to Ligue 2. The club has since had an unfortunate fall to the lower divisions of French football for footballing reasons and financial relegation.

There are no additional details on how these investigations will affect the club.
