Jérôme Boateng tops Lyon’s list of undesirable senior players

As reported by L’Équipe, having missed out on European football for the coming season, Lyon are looking to sell a section of their senior squad and have earmarked a group of players to be sold before the end of the transfer window.

Despite coach Peter Bosz persuading former Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jérôme Boateng to join the club last summer, the 33-year-old tops the list of players Bosz wants to leave just a year later. Having been marginalised at the end of last season, losing his place in the side, Boateng had hoped to win back his spot during pre-season but looks to have been permanently overtaken in Bosz’s thinking by Thiago Mendes and teenage sensation Castello Lukeba during early warm-up friendlies.

Amid reports of a rift between coach and player, which Bosz played down back in February, as well as producing some lacklustre form, Boateng reportedly proved to be a negative influence on the squad, coming to blows with Bruno Guimarães in training before his January move to Newcastle last season.
