Speaking exclusively to Goal, Marseille and France midfielder Jordan Veretout (29) revealed that he was eager for a change of scenery this summer after a difficult few months at Roma.
Veretout had been a starter at Roma for the majority of his time in the Italian capital, but in the final few months, the Frenchman saw his game time reduced. Consequently, he was keen on a move, and when Marseille came knocking, he didn’t hesitate.
“I was in discussions for a long time with Marseille. I wanted to see somewhere else other than Italy and come back to France. Those final months with Roma were difficult on multiple levels and I need a change in scenery to continue to advance my career,” he said.
“When Marseille contacted me, I immediately wanted to go there, especially so that I could make my first step in the Champions League, and in a mad stadium. It’s fantastic,” he continued.
