Jules Koundé speaks about rivalry with Benjamin Pavard

France defender Jules Koundé spoke to L’Équipe during his France press conference two days before France’s next match against Tunisia in the final group game of the World Cup – having already qualified against Denmark on Saturday evening.

The Barcelona defender spoke about his rivalry with teammate for the starting position at right-back, saying neither defender feels like they own that position- but  that it was “healthy competition” and that it means the pair “bring 100% out of each other when we play” before admitting that he does need to bring more in attack to his game and improve on his communication with other players in that position.

Koundé started against Denmark on Saturday and performed well in his World Cup debut – he was included in Didier Deschamps’ eleven after Benjamin Pavard was seen as at fault for Australia’s first goal against Les Bleus in the opening match of the World Cup.
