Julian Draxler: “I need more game time.”

In starting for Germany in their friendly against Israel yesterday, Julian Draxler played his first international match in 17 months. After the game, the midfielder spoke to the press, expressing his frustration with his lack of game time with Paris Saint-Germain this season.

“I’m happy to have played a full 90 for the first time in a long time,” said the German.“I’m still confident I’ve got enough quality for this team.”

“My club situation is complicated,” he said, referring to the total of 861 minutes played under Mauricio Pochettino this season. “I’m lacking rhythm. I need more game time.”

Hansi Flick, the German manager, was of the same opinion, describing Draxler’s game time as “unsatisfactory.” Despite this, he did not advise a change of clubs. “Each player should take their own responsibilities and evaluate their own situation.”
