According to L’Équipe, striker Karim Benzema will not return to Real Madrid training until 9th December, the Frenchman will continue his recovery work at Madrid from then onwards after spending time on holiday at the Indian Ocean Island of Réunion. He had left Doha and the French team on 20 November due to a quadriceps injury in his left thigh and had to abandon his participation in the tournament.
Whilst the date of Benzema’s return to collective training is not yet confirmed, but he was forced to withdraw from Didier Deschamps’ squad before Les Bleus’ first game against Australia. The Ballon d’Or winner had been struggling for fitness prior to the tournament but suffered an unrelated injury upon his return to collective training.
Spanish press had reported that the Real Madrid man had recovered quicker than first thought from injury, but these events suggest he was nowhere near a return for Les Bleus.
