Speaking to RMC Sport after his side’s first leg defeat in the Champions League semi-final, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema hailed his teammates’ resilience in staying in the game after a barrage of Manchester City attacks.
The Frenchman scored two goals, including a panenka penalty, to keep his team in the tie amid an exhilarating, end-to-end game which ended 4-3 in the Premier League side’s favour.
“It was a great semi-final against a great City team. They had a better start to the game, but we didn’t give in at the end of the first half and started to create some chances. […] You have to be able to ride out the storm against the big sides. That’s what we did and in the end, we managed to score three goals.”
