With only a few days left before France takes on Australia, Karim Benzema still has not trained with the team. It appears that he is unlikely to be ready for France’s first World Cup match. As previously covered, Benzema was able to perform some dynamic movements in his separate workout, but was left out of team activities.
If Benzema is able to start team training this week, it is unclear if he will be ready to play, let alone start in just five days. With the World Cup on the line, it makes more sense that Didier Deschamps will want to take his chances with Olivier Giroud or possibly Randal Kolo Muani in order not to risk further injury or setback.
Should the forward misses the match on November 22nd it will give him a total of 9 days to prepare for the match on the 26th against Denmark. Benzema has spent many years away from the national team before his return last year, and at 34-years-old, there are no “next World Cups” ahead of him.
