Russian club FC Krasnodar has this afternoon announced the suspension of eight foreign players’ contracts, including that of French midfielder Rémy Cabella.
Although the club has not given an official reason, the impending sacking of many of its non-Russian players is likely linked to the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The 31-year-old, formerly of Marseille, Saint-Étienne and Newcastle, cannot currently sign with another club on an official basis.
The attacking midfielder has already returned to Montpellier, where according to Foot Mercato he will train and keep his fitness up while recovering from injury.
