L’Équipe report that the Mbappé family, including the forward’s mother Fayza Lamari, are currently spending a few days in Doha, during which they will have meetings with the PSG ownership over Kylian’s future.
While the forward himself has remained in Paris – the team played on Wednesday night and have another match tomorrow evening against Lens, potentially the title-winning fixture – although president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is in Qatar himself.
PSG now retain hope of renewing the forward’s contract, having tepidly begun talks in autumn after Mbappé’s push last summer to join Real Madrid. Discussions appear to have accelerated in the last few weeks.
The Emir of Qatar has made retaining the World Cup winner his number one priority, not least with several months to go before the tournament begins in the Gulf state. The PSG management have been told to do whatever it takes to have him stay.
Mbappé himself is keeping his options open, with talks with Real Madrid also ongoing following the Champions League elimination, while a third unnamed club has also entered the race. A few weeks ago, he had spoken of “new factors” involved in his decision-making.
Nothing has yet leaked from these meetings, although what is definite is that there is no agreement from anywhere, with thorny issues such as image rights still a stumbling block. In any case, it appears that the striker will not make a final decision before the end of the season, perhaps even before June.
