Speaking to RMC Sport before Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League fixture against Benfica, sporting advisor Luís Campos categorically denied any indication that striker Kylian Mbappé wants to leave the club – and in turn the reports that he would follow him out the door.
“I am very surprised because I spend all my days with Kylian Mbappé, and he never once asked me or the president to leave in January. We have to be very clear that this isn’t a declaration – it is news that has come out a few hours before a very important match against Benfica. As for me, I have a three year contract at PSG and I am very happy to be here, in this place – and I work everyday so that I can fulfil my ambitions at the end of my contract.”
Earlier today Le Parisien confirmed reports from RMC Sport that Kylian Mbappé wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, with the forward said to be feeling “betrayed” by the club’s upper management.
He is said to feel betrayed by club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the Qatari ownership, as well as Antero Henrique, who was brought back into the fold this summer to manage the club’s transfer negotiations.
According to France Bleu Mbappé reportedly told those close to him: “We made a mistake, me first and foremost.” Despite intense interest from Real Madrid, Mbappé made the decision to remain at Parc des Princes this summer. He could have joined the European champions on a free transfer, with just over a month remaining on his contract by the time he decided to renew.
