Lyon are looking to sign Issa Diop from West Ham this summer

According to L’Équipe, Lyon are interested in signing French central defender Issa Diop (25) from West Ham in the coming transfer window.

With Jérôme Boateng taken out of the squad, and Jason Denayer’s contract running out, with no sign of a renewal, the centre-back position for Lyon is one of concern. While 19-year-old Castello Lukeba could prove to be one solution, Bruno Cheyrou, the head of recruitment at the club, is looking for a second defender to complement him.

In this respect, Lyon are looking to sign 25-year-old Issa Diop from West Ham, who is currently not a starter with the east London side, and has made only 11 Premier League appearances this season.

Having joined the Hammers from Toulouse in 2018 for a fee of €25 million, the defender has accumulated 118 games with the club, with his contract set to run out in the summer of 2023.

Despite having played for the France U21s, Diop has never broken through to the first team, unlike his teammate and compatriot Kurt Zouma, who was recently dropped from Didier Deschamps squad.
