Marquinhos staying in Qatar after Brazil elimination

L’Équipe report today that Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has remained in Qatar in the wake of Brazil’s World Cup quarter-final loss, as he looks to recover from a match that saw him deflect in Croatia’s equaliser and miss the decisive penalty.

The centre-back is staying in Doha alongside his wife and children and is trying to relax and relieve the pressure after the match. One person close to the Brazilian has described his mood to L’Équipe as “sad, very dejected”, while his wife has explained that he “doesn’t want to do anything”. He has had support from those close to him – Neymar has notably published a screenshot of a Whatsapp conversation with his club and international teammate.

Marquinhos is nevertheless expected back in Paris on Sunday, and will be back in training with the Ligue 1 leaders the following day, as they look ahead to their first match after the international break, against Strasbourg on December 28.
