Marseille preparing a third offer for Lens’ Jonathan Clauss

L’Équipe report today that Marseille have made a second offer to Lens for wing-back Jonathan Clauss, with the Frenchman himself interested in a move to the Vélodrome this summer.

OM’s initial offer for the 29-year-old last week was €5m along with an extra €1m in bonuses, which was rejected. A second offer on Wednesday which saw the base fee raised to €6m was also turned down by the Sang et Or.

The Artois club, who have Clauss under contract until the end of the season, are pushing for a €10m fee, and are in no rush to sell given the departure of Cheick Doucouré to Crystal Palace which has given them financial breathing space.

Clauss is nevertheless Marseille’s priority, and the club are preparing a third offer for him – however, a plan B has nevertheless been explored should talks with Lens not lead to a move.

Reports last month had indicated that Chelsea were another club interested in the right-back, but Marseille appear to be in the lead now for Clauss, who has emerged as one of the best wing players in Ligue 1 these past two seasons.
