In an interview with La Provence, Marseille president Pablo Longoria explained that he has been delighted with OM’s start to the league season under new coach Igor Tudor but will reserve judgment on a prolific summer transfer window for the end of the campaign. Longoria said:
“Our start to the season in the league has been extraordinary, that’s the word. Even though we knew we had a good squad, getting 23 points out of a possible 27 is exceptional. But I’m not surprised, because I knew the level of the squad… We always said we would see the real team in September. Today, we’re seeing things on the pitch that we talked about during our first conversations with Igor. When things are consistent, normally, results follow. This shows us that we have taken the right path.”
“We must always evaluate a transfer window in June, at the end of the season, like last year. I don’t like to make judgments during the season. The most important thing for me is to look at player profiles. Recruitment can never be perfect, you can always make mistakes, but, when it’s based on profiles, we know that adaptation will be faster. We’re not looking for names, we’re looking for characteristics to help develop a particular type of football.”
