Former president of UEFA Michel Platini has today released a statement via AP in which he calls for Russian president Vladimir Putin to end to the bombing of Ukraine, as the large-scale invasion enters its seventh day.
The French midfield legend spoke of his admiration for the “courage and unity” of his “Ukrainian friends” and expressed his solidarity “in these hours of suffering and horror”.
In the announcement, the 66-year-old goes on to call for Putin – “with whom I have often discussed football and sport” – to stop the aggression and end the “shooting and bombing”. He urges the Russian president to instead favour “a real diplomatic dialogue without delay in favor of peace”.
