As confirmed by the club, Montpellier will release five senior players at the end of the contracts this summer after a disappointing 13th place finish in Ligue 1 this season, having once been a European contender.
Thanking the players in a tweet this morning, MHSC announced full-back Mihailo Ristić (26), Cameroon international defender Ambroise Oyongo (29), midfielder-turned-right-back Junior Sambia (25), young American striker Nicholas Gioacchini (21) and Brazilian centre-back Matheus Thuler (23) would all depart. Between them, the group managed 125 appearances in all competitions this season.
Ristić has been linked with Benfica, Sambia with Crystal Palace and Strasbourg and the club have decided not to activate a €2m option to buy in Gioacchini’s loan deal from Ligue 2 Caen.
