Nantes worried about UEFA stadium requirements ahead of Europa League campaign

Nantes director-general Franck Kita has expressed worry over the potential non-conformity of the Stade Beaujoire to UEFA requirements ahead of their upcoming Europa League campaign.

Having won the Coupe de France last season, the club have automatically qualified for the group stages of next year’s tournament. However, during a press conference on Wednesday, Kita expressed worry rather than excitement. “UEFA are going to want to safeguard as much as possible and we don’t yet have a definitive response from them,” he began.

We are waiting and if it isn’t approved or conforming to the norms, what are we going to do?” he continued. The issue surrounds the number of turnstiles at the Stade Beaujoire. Should there be an insufficient amount of them, there is the possibility of capacity limits being set.

The Beaujoire has a capacity of around 37,000, but there is a genuine possibility that the stadium won’t be filled ahead of the club’s first European campaign since competing in the Intertoto Cup in 2004.
