In his press conference with Kylian Mbappé to discuss the forward’s contract renewal, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi discussed the impact that the Frenchman staying will have.
His words transcribed in RMC Sport, Al-Khelaifi was keen to indicate that money was not the most important thing in the negotiations, but rather the sporting project that the club would put forward.
“Kylian stays at PSG for the next three years, it’s very important for us, Ligue 1 and France. This choice is a very strong signal, we are keeping the best player in the world. He is staying because Paris is putting him the conditions to reach his goals – to win, win and win.”
“We’ve built up something very strong between us from the first day. Maybe you don’t understand it now but you will later, that it’s positive for the club, the league and for France.”
“[On the contract numbers] We have never revealed the numbers, but it wasn’t the most important thing. The most important thing was the project. In terms of money, the Spanish club could have paid more.”
