New PSG signing Hugo Ekitike spoke to Le Parisien this morning in his first full-length interview after joining the current French champions from Stade de Reims in a €30m-worth loan-to-buy deal that was completed earlier this month. The 20-year old Frenchman spoke about his mentality after joining one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the pressure that moving to a club like PSG at a young age could bring:
“Jeopardy didn’t enter my mentality – all those who have positioned themselves were big clubs. I am not afraid of anything, I want to reach the highest level. PSG is the biggest club in France, but also in the world. From the moment you are ambitious and you know what you want, why make small steps? That’s how I thought about it. For me, one is not born great great player, one becomes it.”
The young forward scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 last season for Reims, and was the subject of sustained interest from Newcastle in both the summer and winter transfer windows, but opted join the Parisien side where he will earn more than the €250,000 a month that the Magpies were offering, after signing on a five-year deal. The player travelled with the PSG squad to Japan shortly after signing.
