No World Cup invite for Michel Platini

It seems Michel Platini, former France international, was not sent a formal invitation to the World Cup as reported by L’Équipe.

In a statement to the outlet, the French legend stated the following, “I have not received any invitation, except from many media outlets, and I have no intention of going there.”

Platini was brought in for questioning in 2019 in a corruption investigation over FIFA’s voting for the 2022 World Cup being hosted in Qatar. It is worth noting that Platini denied any wrongdoing.

It was also reported that former president of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, also accused Platini of “swinging” the ballot from the United States to Qatar.

Platini has fallen out of grace over the last few years, but his legacy is still that of one of the best French players in history. Some of his personal achievements include French Player of the Year, UEFA European Championship Player of the Tournament and three time Ballon d’Or recipient.
