Noël Le Graët sets World Cup semi-final target for Didier Deschamps

In an interview with L’Équipe published tonight, FFF president Noël Le Graët has notably discussed the future of national team mananger Didier Deschamps, whose current contract is due to expire after the upcoming World Cup.

The French FA president has indicated that he will meet with the double World Cup winner shortly after the tournament in Qatar to hold discussions, and has set out a clear objective – “If we make it to the semi-finals, it’ll be up to him. If he feels like carrying on, there won’t even be a need to discuss. If we’re not in the last four, we’ll talk… in that case, the ball is in my court”.

He adds that although the semi-finals are the target for Deschamps to keep his job safe, Le Graët has absolute faith in the coach and does not see any sign of weariness in him, after more than ten years in the job.

As for himself, the 80-year-old has indicated that he intends to see out the rest of his third term as FFF president, which lasts for another two years after the World Cup. For Le Graët, if Deschamps stays on then he will too – and if not, he will speak with the members of the executive committee over his own future.
