Speaking to L‘Équipe, French Football Federation president Noël Le Graet has reaffirmed FIFA’s position on the ‘One Love’ armband which was planned to be worn by several countries at the Qatar FIFA World Cup in support of LGBTQ+ rights.
The French Federation boss affirmed his opposition to the armband, as he further wished to follow the initiatives set by FIFA, saying he thinks it is a ‘good idea’ that all 32 teams wear the same armband. He also said that the French Federation is handing out the armbands to amateur teams, to ‘those that want to wear them’.
Le Graët also once again defended the World Cup being based in Qatar, saying that the criticism against the country has been ‘excessive’ and that the ‘political side’ of the debate has ‘surprised’ him, whilst also defending PSG president Nasser Al Khelaïfi and trade deals made between France and Qatar.
