Antonin Cartillier (18) and Enzo Couto (18) became the latest academy products to sign their first professional contracts at AS Monaco. The duo put pen-to-paper on three-year deals.
Cartillier was captain of the club’s U19 side last season, which reached the national final against Nantes. The young left-back made 33 appearances for the club, scoring three and making an impressive 15 assists.
Couto meanwhile, made 24 starts for the side. The central defender has also featured for the senior side in both of their pre-season friendlies. Most recently, he played the whole second half of Monaco’s 1-1 draw against St Gall at La Turbie.
In signing their contracts, Cartillier and Couto became the twelfth and thirteenth youth products to turn professional at the club since May 2021. Some of those such as Yllan Okou, Maghnes Akliouche and Félix Lemarechal have since become regular fixtures in the first-team picture.
Speaking in a club press release, sporting director Paul Mitchell said, “The academy is the cornerstone of our sporting project and our will is to develop the talents that we train. For our U19 side, Antonio and Enzo have shown great things this season. This first professional contract is a reward for what they have already accomplished and we expect them to continue on this path.”
Director of youth development Pascal de Maesschalck added, “We are happy to see them, just like Mamadou Coulibaly before them, grow with AS Monaco. It’s now up to them to repay the confidence that the club has shown in them by continuing their work and by showing the same desire to progress on a daily basis.”
