Lyon have this morning announced the signing of Argentine left-back Nicolás Tagliafico, who signs from Ajax on a permanent deal on a three-season contract after a protracted transfer saga.
The 29-year-old has signed from the Dutch side in a move worth €4.2m. Despite coming to an agreement in principle with Les Gones, Tagliafico had given himself time to reflect on the move and to see whether offers from Brighton or a European side would materialise.
Lyon were on the lookout this summer for a new starting left-back after last season’s loanee Emerson returned to Chelsea. Initially the club were interested in Tyrell Malacia, but the Dutchman instead moved to Manchester United. The opportunity to sign Real Madrid legend Marcelo had also emerged, but was ultimately financially unfeasible.
The Argentine international – who has 40 caps to his name – leaves The Netherlands after a four-year spell in the capital in which he made 167 appearances, scoring 16 times and assisting another 22 goals. He has been crowned Dutch champion three times.
