OGC Nice have completed the signing of Sofiane Diop (22) from fierce local rivals AS Monaco. He arrives at the Allianz Riviera for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around €20m.
Despite being a mainstay in the Monaco team during the first half of last season, Diop found game time more difficult to come by after the arrival of Philippe Clement. This season, he has not featured in Ligue 1 since Monaco’s opening day victory against Strasbourg, a match during which he scored.
His arrival comes just days after the arrival of another attacking reinforcement in the shape of Nicolas Pépé (27), who has arrived on a season-long loan from Arsenal.
The French youth international is natural at left-wing, but he can play across the forward line as well as in the no.10 role. During 105 appearances for Monaco, he scored 17 goals and made 9 assists.
The length of Diop’s contract at Les Aiglons is yet to be revealed. The player will be eligible to feature in Nice’s fixture against Lille on Wednesday.
