Patrice Beaumelle: “France is a successful war machine.”

Having led by a goal, but ultimately been beaten 2-1 by France last night, Côte d’Ivoire’s French boss Patrice Beaumelle spoke to the press after the game, explaining how impressed he was with the performance of Les Bleus.

“With the French team, you sense that it’s a successful war machine,” said the 43-year-old, who has also served as assistant coach at both Nîmes and Lille. “Didier Deschamps has won everything and he still has that passion at the last minute.”

He continued, saying that his side ought to draw inspiration from Deschamps’. “If we want to win, we have to go looking for it. We should be inspired by this.”

Otherwise, Beaumelle was pleased with Côte d’Ivoire’s performance. “This evening I’m proud. We showed we have a great team who are capable of competing with the best and even to play attractive football. On a daily basis, I’m still working on the details. Definitely in the long term. While I’m at the head of this team, I won’t let go. This team has a soul, we saw it tonight. I hope we’ll be rewarded in the future.”
