PLAYER RATINGS | PSG 2-1 Marseille, possession heavy OM unlucky to lose bizarre game

Ligue 1 21/22, Round 32 – 17/4/22

PSG – 2 (Neymar 12, Mbappé 45)

Gianluigi Donnarumma, 3 – He looked shaky in possession when he was asked to play as more like an outfield player on occasion and his unneeded and unsuccessful flap at Payet’s corner resulted in the equaliser.

Achraf Hakimi, 5

Presnel Kimpembe, 5

Marquinhos, 5

Nuno Mendes, 6

Marco Verratti, 6

Danilo Pereira, 4

Idrissa Gana Gueye, 4

Kylian Mbappé, 4 – He fired home the penalty to win the game but his finishing was erratic besides that and he might have had a couple more, were his sights properly aligned.

Neymar, 7 – It’s interesting to see a change in body language since home fans started booing him and reports emerged that QSI are unhappy with his commitment. This was another more focused and efficient display, despite PSG having nothing to play for. Faded in the second half but did well to poke home the opener and won the penalty.

Lionel Messi, 5

Others: Ramos 5, Icardi 5, Wijnaldum 5.

MARSEILLE – 1 (Ćaleta-Car 31)

Pau López, 3 – Mandanda’s form and discussion that the OM veteran could replace him seems to have unsettled the keeper. His passing was hit and miss, especially given that his technical ability is Sampaoli’s reason for persisting with him over Mandanda. His poor positioning resulted in the opener.

William Saliba, 6 – His passing was excellent for long periods in an odd game that was played largely in Marseille’s half but with OM in possession, and largely defended well against Mbappé, Messi and Neymar.

Luan Peres, 6

Duje Ćaleta-Car, 7 – Although he wasn’t quite as courageous on the ball as Saliba, he defended astutely throughout and his last-ditch challenge on Mbappé in the second half was key to keeping OM in it. He was also on hand to tap home for 1-1.

Valentin Rongier, 3

Pape Gueye, 5

Boubacar Kamara, 5

Mattéo Guendouzi, 6 – A typically irksome Guendouzi display, even if he was unable to offer too much going forward due to the pattern of play. He battled for everything and enjoyed a feisty midfield scrap with Verratti throughout.

Gerson, 5

Dimitri Payet, 5

Cengiz Ünder, 3

Others: Lirola 5, Bakambu 5, Dieng 5, Harit 6.
