Fabrizio Romano reports this morning that Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced talks with Napoli to sign Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz, with a deal now close to being completed.
PSG’s new sporting advisor Luís Campos is said to have been working on the transfer for several weeks, having been in discussions with agents so as to prevent the 26-year-old from joining another club on a free at the end of his contract next summer.
The talks, which have been confirmed by L’Équipe, are taking place as the Spanish international turned down a contract extension with the Serie A club, where he has played for the last four years.
The former Real Betis man is set to leave the club having made 166 appearances in all competitions during his time there, and scoring a total of 22 goals including seven in the league last season. Napoli have set a €30m asking price, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, but could be convinced to go lower so as to avoid losing the player on a free.
PSG had been in the market for a new midfield signing among two to three additional arrivals after a busy summer, according to L’Équipe a few days ago – although Ruiz does not necessarily fit with the reported profile of a physical midfielder with Ligue 1 experience that was cited.
