As reported by RMC Sport, Randal Kolo Muani’s last-minute call-up for the French World Cup squad came just minutes after he woke up in Tokyo, with his club EIntracth Frankfurt currently on a tour of Japan.
In the wake of Christopher Nkunku’s knee sprain in Tuesday night’s training session, after an unfortunate collision with Eduardo Camavinga, Didier Deschamps was forced into a late change in his 26-man squad. He opted for the former Nantes man – over the likes of Moussa Diaby, Wissam Ben Yedder or Martin Terrier – a decision which was made official with a call at 11pm French time.
Having accepted the call-up straight away, Kolo Muani has nevertheless since sent a text message to Nkunku, his fellow Bundesliga French forward, to wish him a speedy recovery.
The striker, who has eight goals and eleven assists in 22 appearances so far since his summer move to the opposite back of the Rhine, will join up with the France squad in Doha this morning.
