Speaking to the press ahead of France’s World Cup semi-final clash against Morocco on Wednesday evening, vice-captain Raphaël Varane praised Antoine Griezmann in his new role in Les Bleus’ midfield and his performances so far in the World Cup. The following was transcribed by RMC Sport:
Varane said that whilst Griezmann’s role has “changed a little bit” that the Atletico Madrid man still has the same attacking qualities to “cover the pitch” with “technical precision”. He goes on to say that Griezmann has the “experience and qualities that allow him to play a very important role in the France team” and finished off by highlighting that “he is in full control of his qualities, and brings a lot to the squad”.
Antoine Griezmann’s two assists against England meant he surpassed Thierry Henry’s assist count for France in what has been a numerically productive World Cup, with the performances to back it up. He now has 27 and the most assists for the France national team in the last 50 years.
