As reported by RMC, Lille centre-back Sven Botman has arrived at Newcastle United’s training ground today via a privately chartered jet to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to the Premier League side.
The 22-year-old Dutchman could finalise his transfer to the English club in the coming hours after he finally agreed to join the Magpies following pressure from Lille who have been keen to make a major sale to aid their finances. Botman’s preferred destination was reportedly AC Milan, who have been in talks to sign the defender for some time, but the Italian champions were unable to match Newcastle’s huge offer for the player.
That offer is expected to amount to a transfer of around €40m, say the outlet, after Botman joined LOSC two seasons ago for €8m from Ajax. Botman has played 79 games in all competitions for Lille and helped the club win the French league title last year but he has seen his season affected by injuries this term.
