As reported by sources contacted by Get French Football News, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are expected to imminently sign defender Sven Botman from Lille.
As Gianluca Di Marzio reported yesterday, Lille have been pushing Dutch centre-back Botman towards Newcastle, but the player has been waiting for AC Milan to improve their offer. But now, as GFFN reported earlier this evening, Newcastle are indeed expected to advance their move for the player, who has held out for Milan for over three weeks, but he has come to realise that the Italian club can’t come close to the English club’s bid.
As a result, the player is to give in to pressure from Lille, who need this major sale to help rectify their tricky financial situation which could cost president Olivier Létang his job.
Romano, meanwhile, this evening reports that the deal is now completed with the paperwork signed tonight. Meanwhile, the fee expected to be €37m plus bonuses for the 22-year-old Lille defender with a medical now also booked. Three bids were turned down in January by last year’s Ligue 1 title winners, a triumph which Botman was a key part of.
