Speaking to RMC Sport after this evening’s 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, Thibaut Courtois praised French international striker Karim Benzema, whose hat-trick led Real Madrid to victory.
“Yes, I think ultimately it was a tough match. They have their speed with Kylian and Neymar on the counter and that’s how the first goal came. Just before they had some big big chances. As for us, we had a great shot from Karim, I think Donnarumma makes a good save. Then a header, but without much of an opportunity. They lead us by a goal but I think we maintained our spirit because it’s a goal that gets the stadium going again. And that’s what happened: Karim presses the keeper well, he makes a mistake, we make it 1-1 and then the whole stadium is behind us. We went looking for the victory and after the second we scored the third and that was key.”
On Karim Benzema:
“I think he’s one of the best players in the world and the best number 9, perhaps with Lewandowski at the moment. He’s showed why he might win the Ballon d’Or this year. He’s a true captain. He lead the team to victory with his goals and with his class.”
