L’Équipe tomorrow provide insight into the relationship between Mathias Pogba and brother Paul, and affirm that any deterioration in relations between the two must have occurred very recently, as new details continue to emerge of Mathias’ role in a €13m blackmail scheme of his brother.
Mathias spent last season at French 4th division side Belfort, where he played just 12 matches owing to an injury. Up until March this year, the duo were understood to be very close, speaking on the phone on a regular basis.
Mathias for example attended virtually every EURO 2021 match to support his family, always bringing a larger than life personality to the matches and genuinely being a favourite of the majority of French national team players’ families in the presidential boxes.
Privately, he was very pro the idea that Paul should leave Manchester United, dreaming that he would sign for Real Madrid, but hoping that he would never at all end up at PSG.
On 20th March, Mathias organised an event at luxury hotel, the Shangri-la, in Paris, for his charitable foundation called “48 H POUR.” Paul, who is one of the organisation’s major donors, attended that event – suggesting that the duo were still on good terms at that time.
France Info affirm that Paul only learned of his brother’s involvement in the continued attempts to blackmail him, which began in March, in July when Mathias appeared to be among the gang threatening him in Turin.
