Aleksandr Golovin has no regrets over Monaco move

Aleksandr Golovin (26) has said that he doesn’t regret having chosen to join AS Monaco over other big European clubs, who were circling the Russian international after his breakthrough at the 2018 World Cup.

Golovin is currently enjoying his best season at the club, as he told Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle at a pre-match press conference on Friday. “I would say that it is my best season since my arrival in Monaco,” said the Russian playmaker. His recent performances have earned him a two-year contract extension, which ties him to the Principality club until 2026.

The former CSKA Moscow midfielder has now been at Monaco for five years, and despite interest from top European clubs, notably Chelsea back in 2018, Golovin doesn’t regret his choice of club. “Of course, I am happy with my choice. It was not easy to choose at that age with big clubs asking you where you want to go. I talked with my parents, my coaches, the coach of the national team and a lot of guys who tried to help me make the best decision. I made the best decision. I can only say thank you for these amazing five years,” he said.
