With his impressive first full season in North London coming to a premature end due to injury, Arsenal are now looking to tie down William Saliba’s long-term future, according to a report from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins this evening.
The French international was a standout in the Gunners’ title challenge, having returned last summer from an equally impressive loan spell at Marseille. A back injury, which has kept him out since March, coincided with increased struggles at the back for Mikel Arteta’s men.
Having joined from Saint-Étienne in 2019, the 22-year-old is now under contract until 2024, after a clause was triggered in his deal last year. The club has launched contract renewal talks, although an agreement is yet to be found. The Frenchman will return to action later in the summer – at which point he will have under a year left on his contract. According to RMC, three “major” clubs have enquired about the prospect of a summer transfer.
