Foot Mercato are reporting that Arsenal are in “pole position” to sign Montpellier forward Elye Wahi (20), and will submit an offer for the France U21 international imminently.
Wahi has had a breakthrough season with Montpellier and is expected to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer. In 32 games in the French top flight, Wahi has 17 goals and six assists. Whilst Arsenal are in “pole position,” to sign the forward, according to Foot Mercato, the London club could face significant competition from AS Monaco.
L’Équipe described the Principality club as “well-placed” to sign Wahi earlier this month, whilst in an interview with France Bleu Hérault said that he would be interested in a move to another Ligue 1 club. However, there is lots of competition from abroad, with teams across Europe interested in the Frenchman.
Arsenal are now set to make an opening offer for Wahi, which is expected to be below the player’s valuation, thought to be between €30-35m.
