Speaking on Téléfoot, TF1 journalist Saber Desfarges has stated that Mattéo Guendouzi (23) is set to remain at Olympique de Marseille, despite Aston Villa’s interest in the French midfielder.
Foot Mercato and multiple French media outlets revealed the Midlands club’s interest in Guendouzi, who only completed hs permanent move to Les Phocéens this summer. The former FC Lorient player had spent the previous season on loan from Arsenal before making the move permanent.
L’Équipe then later revealed that Premier League rivals West Ham United were also interested in the Marseille midfielder. However, Foot Mercato later revealed that Guendouzi could potentially decline a move back to the Premier League out of an attachment to his current club.
Desfarges has now revealed that Guendouzi is unlikely to move this month. Marseille are under no obligation to sell the player, and would only be inclined to accept a huge offer. The club are also yet to receive any official offers, despite the interest from Aston Villa. What would constitute a “huge offer” in the eyes of Marseille has not been defined, but reports had suggested that Aston Villa could be prepared to offer up to €40m for the France international.
