RMC Sport report tonight that the France national team set-up are considering starting Benjamin Pavard for tonight’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Ireland, in what would be the Bayern Munich man’s first appearance for the national team since the first group stage game of the World Cup.
The former Lille man had struggled in the right-back role against Australia, notably losing his defender at the back post for the opponents’ opener – although Les Bleus would go on to win the match anyway.
In Dublin, Pavard could either start or come on as a substitute. In his press conference on announcing his squad list ten days ago, Didier Deschamps explained that his exchanges with Pavard in the wake of his decision to start Koundé ahead of him in Qatar were now a thing of the past. Alongside Pavard, France’s new-look defensive pairing in Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konaté are expected to start, while ahead of him Randal Kolo Muani is set to start on the right wing.
