Toulouse midfielder Branco van den Boomen (27) has said that he still dreams of a call-up to the Netherlands national team, despite his continued omission from the national team set-up.
Van den Boomen has backed up his impressive Ligue 2 season in the French top flight this campaign. In 22 matches, he has scored five goals, and registered seven assists in a Toulouse side that, until last weekend, were unbeaten in Ligue 1 in 2023. Many tipped the club for relegation, especially with four teams dropping down into the second tier this season due to a re-structuring of the French game, but the club are currently 12th and 11 points above the drop-zone.
Despite his consistent performances in the French top flight, his efforts are yet to be recognized with a call-up to the Dutch national team. Asked about a possible selection by new Dutch manager Ronald Koeman in an interview with ESPN, transcribed by Les Violets, van den Boomen replied, “Dreaming is still allowed, but I’m not counting on it. Players that succeed abroad are always watched, so I want to continue like that. You never know what might happen.”
