In an interview with Le Parisien, Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu (19) has said that a loan move to partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace was never on the agenda.
Ugochukwu completed a move from Stade Rennais to Chelsea this summer. However, despite the reported €27m fee paid by Chelsea, it was expected that the France U21 international would return to Ligue 1 this season. The Premier League side have a newly constructed link to Strasbourg following BlueCo’s takeover of the club earlier this summer.
However, contrary to expectations, few players made the switch from Stamford Bridge to La Meinau this summer, with only Brazilian winger Ângelo (18) joining the Ligue 1 side. Ugochukwu has now revealed that a move to Strasbourg was never “on the agenda.”
“A departure to Strasbourg was never on the agenda. I heard about it, but I was never told to make a choice. The idea was always for me to do the pre-season, and if the coach liked what I did, I’d stay. In my mind, it’s clear: I wanted to stay at Chelsea. I gave 100% to be a part of the group,” Ugochukwu told Le Parisien.
Since the start of the season, Ugochukwu has featured three times for the Blues, including two brief substitute appearances in the Premier League. He is currently on France U21 duty.
