Christophe Galtier on Warren Zaïre-Emery: “If a 16-year-old is more capable of playing than others, he will play.”

Christophe Galtier spoke about competition in the PSG squad and specifically playing Warren Zaïre-Emery (16) ahead of other midfielders at the club. This was when  the Frenchman asked about whether a match against Monaco with injuries to key players such as Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé was an opportunity to undergo a total review of the squad and integrate younger players such as Zaïre-Emery. The following was transcribed by L’Équipe

We’re not in preparation matches,” Galtier said, before praising the 16-year-old breakthrough midfielder. “I’m very happy with Warren’s start. There was the little slip-up against Reims with the equaliser.”

Galtier then took aim at his other players, saying that “I have to have some competition in the squad,” before adding “If a 16 and a half or 17 year old is more capable of playing than the other players, they will play.”

Zaïre-Emery could be set for his second Ligue 1 start against Monaco, with injuries in key areas of the pitch slimming down Galtier’s options, especially in attacking areas.
