Christopher Nkunku’s return to training will come as good news for not only Leipzig but also for Les Bleus and Chelsea. The young French attacker had been sidelined since his injury, a tear in the external ligament of the left knee, during World Cup preparation at Clairefontaine with Les Bleus.
According to L’Équipe, the 25-year-old began limited training with his team on Tuesday. The PSG academy product restarted football activity with a run and a few exercises with his teammates but was not permitted to complete a full session. He has also been doing light exercises for the last three weeks.
Last year’s Bundesliga player of the season’s return comes at a good time. Not only is his team going up against Premier League giants, Manchester City, in the Champions League knockout stage in two weeks, but his club currently sits in 4th place not far behind the league leaders. If Nkunku can get back to full health and top form by March, the French international will be a key figure for the European Qualifiers.
