Didier Deschamps reacts to France contract extension: “You can count on me.”

Speaking at his press conference this afternoon in the wake of his contract extension as France manager, Didier Deschamps discussed the deal that would keep him in charge of Les Bleus up until the next World Cup, in 2026.

Deschamps, who has been in charge for over ten years, recently oversaw the team’s run to the World Cup final. His contract had expired at the end of the calendar year, and negotiations with FFF president Noël Le Graët have successfully led to a renewal, despite long-standing links to the job for France legend Zinédine Zidane.

The coach firstly thanked the FFF chief for his show of faith and spoke of the “emotions and passion” of taking part in a World Cup, having now reached consecutive finals. He also looked ahead to the March international break, pointing out that the games would be crucial in France’s road to Euro 2024 – “You can count on me to keep the French national team at the highest international level.”
