In assessing Kylian Mbappé’s situation at PSG following the end of the summer transfer window, the French sports daily L’Équipe report that long-term suitors Real Madrid are not the only realistic destination for the France captain, should he see out the final year of his contract and leave Paris next summer as he intends.
Mbappé was allowed to return to the PSG squad last month following a brief exile amid a dispute with club management over his future. With the club concerned about losing the player for nothing, Mbappé broke the deadlock by providing the club with financial assurances centered around a substantial loyalty bonus.
This development seemingly cleared a path for Mbappé to play a final year with PSG (even though the club hopes to convince him to stay once more) and then leave for Madrid next off-season. However, L’Équipe declare that Liverpool remains an option for the 24-year-old and suggest he could be tempted if a bid were to be made by the Anfield club.
Liverpool have also been a long-term admirer of Mbappé and even sent a delegation to meet with the forward during his Monaco days to present their project. The encounter, somewhat unusually, took place in a plane circling over the Côte-d’Azur.
The paper confirms that Mbappé, who is said to be an admirer of Jürgen Klopp, refused to enter talks over a massive offer from Saudi Arabia while Real Madrid did not make a bid at any point this summer meaning a bid from Liverpool in 2024 could yet be very well-timed.
