Eduardo Camavinga looking forward to midfield return for Real Madrid

Although he has impressed as a left-back since the turn of the year, Eduardo Camavinga is looking forward to teammate Ferland Mendy’s return from injury so he can move back into the Real Madrid midfield, according to L’Équipe.

The former Rennes man first took up the wide position at the World Cup, with Didier Deschamps forced to find an unconventional solution to the France squad’s injury crisis, especially after the early knee injury of Lucas Hernandez In the last international break, Les Bleus’ manager confirmed that Camavinga would remain in that position.

With Carlo Ancelotti taking inspiration from Deschamps’ innovation, the 20-year-old has been able to feature regularly in Los Blancos’ most important games this season – and is expected to start as a left-back again in tonight’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City. The Real Madrid staff are said to be particularly grateful towards Camavinga, in terms of his professionalism and his willingness to help out in an unfamiliar position and improve.
