Elite European clubs circling Lyon’s Houssem Aouar

Olympique Lyonnais playmaker and soon-to-be free agent Houssem Aouar (24) is attracting interest from a handful of European clubs, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The OL youth product will be out of contract next June and is expected to depart the Groupama Stadium side. Aouar almost left his formative club in the summer, but having decided to stay, he has played a mostly peripheral role. In all competitions, he has made only ten appearances, scoring once and registering one assist. Something of a fall from grace for a player that was once linked with Europe’s elite following his breakout performances in the Champions League with Les Gones.

The 24-year-old, given his age, his profile and the fact he will be a free agent, will no doubt attract interest among European outfits. According to Foot Mercato, the four clubs leading the chase to acquire the France international’s services are Napoli, AS Roma, Real Betis and Eintracht Frankfurt.

All of those clubs are still on course to qualify for the Champions League next season, unlike Lyon. The outlet reports that Aouar has yet to give his agreement to any club, and he will presumably wait until the end of the season to make his choice. The playmaker will reportedly make the sporting project his priority when choosing his future team.
