According to sources contacted by Get French Football News, AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana’s (24) contract runs until June 2025, and not 2024, as was initially thought.
The one-year extension to his deal was triggered just months after the Frenchman’s arrival from Ligue 1 rivals Strasbourg in January 2020, meaning that Fofana has over two years remaining on his deal, not 18 months as was initially thought.
During his time at the Principality club, Fofana has become an indispensable player in Monaco’s midfield, racking up over 120 appearances. In September, he also became a France international and has since accumulated eight caps for Les Bleus, including six appearances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
During Monaco’s win against AC Ajaccio over the weekend, he even wore the captain’s armband for the first time with Wissam Ben Yedder and Axel Disasi both off the pitch, as Les Monégasques triumphed 7-1 against the Corsican club.
