FFF executive committee validates Didier Deschamps’ contract extension

In a statement published by RMC in the wake of the executive board meeting (comex), the French Football Federation has (FFF) “unanimously” validated Didier Deschamps’ contract renewal.

The statement reads: “The FFF comex, informed of Didier Deschamps’ contract extension terms at the head of the national French team until 2026, has unanimously validated it.” On Saturday morning, the renewal came as a surprise for the executive members of the FFF because they were kept in the dark by Noël Le Graët, the 81-year-old president of the FFF.

The length of the new contract was a particular source of ire among executive committee members, given that Deschamps, as per his own wish, is set to stay on until the 2026 World Cup, even though Le Graët’s final term in charge was to end in 2024. This Wednesday though, FFF has announced that Le Graët was stepping back from the presidency until the French government audit into the federation is completed and the results are known, which will be next month. In the meantime, the current vice-president Philippe Diallo will act as interim.
